Tinplate can be found everywhere in our household. Tinplate concerns thinly-rolled sheet steel on which a thin layer of tin is applied.

This layer of tin protects the metal against corrosion. Tinplate is often used as packaging material. Think of aerosols/spray cans, beverage cans, bottle caps and crown corks, but also paint cans as well as wrapping paper for chocolate and candies.

Tinplate is very well-suited for recycling purposes, as opposed to plastic and other synthetic packaging materials. Like many other metals, tinplate is 100% recyclable. The sustainable and circular character of tinplate contributes to the large-scale usage of tinplate as packaging material, such as in the food industry.
